This is a place where people can share their ideas on how we can better deal with asylum seekers to Australia.

One of the best organisations we've found to help is the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

The government and the media can't seem to come up with the solution, but if we put our heads together, we may come up with something that can help!

Some ideas that we've come up with are:

Set a specific time for asylum seekers' refugee status to be processed.  This will give light at the end of the tunnel to people, knowing that they shall not be held indefinitely, and may kerb the incidents of mental health issues.

If an asylum seeker arrives in Australia with valid identification, they should be prioritised in the queue.  This not only helps to encourage them to bring documentation if possible, it also helps make the job of the application processing easier.

Asylum seekers could have to option of performing voluntary work during the latter part of their detention in return for a quicker processing period.  Not only does this help them learn about working and living in Australian society, it makes them contacts in the community, and it also benefits the community and gives something back.  Hopefully this can stop some of the negativity towards the fact that they are initially living in this country by using Australian taxpayer money.

Please post any ideas you have that are helpful and positive:
